Outdoor enthusiasts are invited to join the Hope Mountain Centre (HMC) for Outdoor Learning for the annual cleanup of the Tikwalus Trail.

The popular hiking destination is in the Fraser Canyon, just north of the Alexandra Bridge. The trailhead parking lot is right beside Highway 1, approximately one kilometre north of Alexandra Bridge Provincial Park.

Cleanup helpers are asked to gather at the Hope and Area Recreation Centre at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday (April 24).

From there, it’ll be off to the trail in a convoy for a full day of work.

According to an HMC news release, the trail is physically demanding, a 12 km round trip with 788 metres of elevation gain.

“Prepare to be on the trail for 8 to 10 hours,” the news release said. “Bring lunch, lots of snacks, 1-2 litres of water, sturdy footwear, work gloves, and clothes for changing mountain weather.”

A chainsaw crew will be going in ahead of time to clear trees, leaving cleanup crews to focus on lopping underbrush.

“The snow has melted back and the glacier lilies are in bloom,” the news release promised.
