No one injured in two fires that took place last week on Water Avenue and Hunter Creek

Structure and vehicle fires created a busy Thursday and Friday for Hope Fire Department

It was a busy “end of the week” for the Hope Fire Department thanks to a structure fire and a vehicle fire that took place within 10 hours of each other.

Seven firefighters arrived on scene on Thursday night (Feb. 16), in the 700 block of Water Avenue, and found a homeless encampment on fire.

“Upon arrival fire crews found a homeless encampment that was fully involved with adjacent exposures,” said Hope Fire Chief Thomas Cameron via email. “The occupant and dog were able to escape with no injuries reported.”

Ten hours later, early Friday morning (Feb. 17), in the Hunter Creek area, five firefighters discovered an abandoned vehicle in flames.

At this time, the vehicle fire is considered suspicious and is still under investigation.
