Polls are still open for Hope’s 2022 municipal election.
It’s been a long day for those working at the polling station at the Hope Secondary School. Since 8 a.m. workers and volunteers at the polling station have been guiding voters as they marked and gave in their ballots for the new mayor, council, Electoral B director, and school board trustees. So far, 969 voters have cast their vote though that number is expected to go up by the end of the night.
“It’s been steady all day which is good to see,” says Kelly Ridley, the Chief Election Officer. “We’ve stacked it well enough that there hasn’t been long lineups. And people are going through and voting, and I’m real happy about it.”

Those hoping to be elected will have a lot riding on their shoulders this term; a number of issues and concerns have been on the minds of many Hope residents including emergency preparedness planning, housing, homelessness, improving working relationships with First Nations communities, and improving road infrastructure.
And it all starts later this evening, after the votes are counted by machine.
“We’ll get things together and then we’ll find out who it is. And then we’ll be posting it on the website and letting City Hall know and we’ll also be sending it to civicinfo,” says Ridley. “Doors are open till [8 p.m.] So, voters need to be here by then.”
Voters who haven’t voted yet can still do so until 8 p.m. After that, polls will close and ballots will be tallied for the 8:30 p.m. (approximately) results.
